1/11/20: Update: Danny Johnson will Crew Chief the #44 Martins Motorsports entry in 2020.
12/26/19: Tommy Jo Martins announced on Christmas Eve that the Former Trucks Series Team Martins Motorsports will compete in the Xfinity Series full time in 2020. Rodney Riessen will join the team as a Co-Owner with Graig Martins. The team will run their traditional #44 with Diamond Gusset Jeans as one of the sponsors in 2020. In Tommy’s announcement he stated if a funded driver would come along he would step out of the car if it made financial sense for the team. In a perfect world Tommy would like to run 25 or so races, not necessarily the whole schedule.
The team has not announced a crew chief yet but “discussions” are underway. The team will run Rob Fisher Engines and use a combination of GMS and KBM Chassis.
Martins is also realistic about their goals as a new team in the series.
“We just want to qualify for 33 races. That’s the goal right now,” Martins said. “Show up every week with a well prepared car & finish races. If we do that 33 times that will be a successful season. I’ve proven I can drive at this level. This team needs to prove we can be one of those 36 cars week in and week out.”
