Talladega and Daytona are the absolute game changer when it comes to the NASCAR Underdogs.
First up on our radar is Gray Gaulding Driver of the #08 for SS Green Lighting Racing in the Xfinty Series. Gray took his Chevy to a 2nd place finish in Saturday’s Money Lion 300. A career best finish for him. Gray and his team will now get to run for the last Dash For Cash Race this weekend at Dover.
The ”Mighty” Beard Oil Motorsports team who only runs 4 times a year (2 Daytona & 2 Talladega Races) once again gets a top 10 finish and brings the car home in one piece. This team has 1 YES 1 full time employee, the Crew Chief Darren Shaw. Beard Oil Motorsports has 2 races left in 2019, Daytona in July and Talladega in October.
Next up on our NASCAR Underdog Spotlight is Corey LaJoie and #32 Go Fas Racing Team. Corey tied his best Cup Series finish on Sunday finishing 11th in the GEICO 500. LaJoie started the 188-lap event from the 36thstarting position in his No. 32 Schuluter-Systems Ford Mustang.
After working his way through the field and with four laps remaining, LaJoie was in the 20th position but he was able to work his way to the front and cross the checkered for an 11thplace result. His 11th place finish ties his career best in the MENCS which came back in July of 2017 at Daytona International Speedway.
It’s a small team without many of the resources that the larger organizations have but things are heading in the right direction and LaJoie knows a finish within’ the top-26 is a good day.
These are just some of the great NASCAR “Underdog” stories that come out of each Daytona and Talladega Races every year.
