The Daytona 500 is the highest paying race to start in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. By making the Daytona 500, it can set a low budget team up for the year to be able to enter more races as the season goes on.
Non-Chartered Open Cars In The Duels:
Duel 1 saw No. 96 Parker Kligerman of Gaunt Brothers Racing-Toyota and No. 7 Ryan Truex of Tommy Baldwin Racing-Chevy have to battle it out to see who would race in the 500. Kligerman had to finish in front of both Ryan Truex and Tyler Reddick (who was locked in on speed) to make the field. Ultimately Parker received help from Toyota teammate Kyle Busch that helped the No. 96 get past Reddick and Ryan Truex to make the 500. Ryan Truex still had hope to make the 500 if Casey Mears finishes top open car in Duel 2.
Duel 2: With No. 27 Germain Racing/Premium Motorsports locked in on speed, the race saw No. 66 of Joey Gase of MBM Motorsports-Toyota and No. 62 of Brendan Gaughan Beard Motorsports-Chevy battle side by side right away in duel 2. But with some late race pitting from Joey Gase, Gaughan was in the spot to transfer by being ahead of the No. 27 and No. 66 for most of Duel 2. Ultimately the No. 27 of Mears did not finish top open car in Duel 2.
The No. 66 of Joey Gase and No. 71 of Ryan Truex both missed getting into the Daytona 500.
