The New Year is upon us and silly season isn’t quite over yet. There are still many Cup Series Team announcements we expect to hear very soon.
Stewart-Hass Racing #41 Driver
As of now everyone expects Daniel Suarez to drive the #41 Ford for SHR In 2019 with Sponsorship from Arris. No word on the Sponsorship Contract between Arris and Joe Gibbs Racing.
Tommy Baldwin Racing Driver(s):
Tommy Baldwin Racing is set to return to the CUP Series on a part time basis in 2019 after stepping away for a season as a car owner. Tommy has stated he is open to running more races then originally planned if a driver/sponsor combo would approach him.
Spire Motorsports Driver:
It was announced that Spire Sports + Entertainment purchased the #78 Charter from the now shut down 2017 Championship Team of Furniture Row Racing. Spire Motorsports will run the #77 number with Chevy as their manufacture. Spire Sports + Entertainment has a long running list of athlete management including CGR Drivers Kyle Larson and Ross Chastain. We expect Spire Motorsports to have a relationship with Chip Ganassi Racing and Premium Motorsports as Spire will be renting shop space at Premium Motorsports. No word on a driver or drivers.
Rick Ware Racing:
A few weeks ago it was announced that Rick Ware Racing had purchased another Charter (from Front Row Motorsports) and will run 2 Full Time Cup Series Cars In 2019. The #51 and #52. In 2018 RWR fielded both Chevy and Ford Manufacturers, no word if they will continue with just 1 manufacture in 2019.
The team also plans to compete in the Xfinity Series for the first time since 2017 after acquiring owner points. The team did not indicate who it had acquired the points from nor who the driver would be.
Chip Ganassi Racing/Jamie McMurray:
It was officially announced that Kurt Busch will drive the #1 Monster Energy Chevy in 2019 replacing Jamie McMurray. Jamie McMurray will join Fox Sports in a variety of roles on NASCAR Race Hub and Race Broadcasts. It is also expected that Jamie Will run the #40 for CGR In The Daytona 500 as well as take on a managerial role at CGR.
Gaunt Brothers Racing:
Gaunt Brothers Racing ran a partial schedule In 2019 with DJ Kenington, Parker Kligerman and Jeffrey Earnhardt. GBR has not announced their 2019 plans but Jeffrey Earnhardt signed a part time deal with Joe Gibbs Racing Xfinty Series Toyota Team which could lead to him returning to Gaunt Brothers Racing Toyota in 2019.
